His work covers an assortment of sectors, including telecoms, financial services and retail, and his clients range from start-ups to some of the world's biggest names.

Catherine Doran Catherine Doran, CIO

With over 30 years of experience, Catherine has also been CIO for BT's Retail Business, the European CIO for CapitalOne and head of development for NatWest's Retail Bank.

William Dutton is director of the Oxford Internet Institute and professor of internet studies at the University of Oxford. Before coming to Oxford in 2002, he was a professor at the University of Southern California. He has written about social aspects of information and communication technologies, is principal Investigator of the Oxford e-Social Science Project and serves as chair of Ofcom's Advisory Committee for England.

Richard Leyland Richard Leyland, tech commentator
Richard Leyland is a technology entrepreneur and expert commentator on workplace technology trends. He spent several years as head of knowledge at the thinktank Unwired Ventures, edits a range of publications and is a widely published writer. He has provided insight into the future for many of the world's largest firms, including the BBC, Nokia, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Toshiba.

Robin Mannings Robin Mannings, futurologist
Robin Mannings is a freelance futurologist. He recently retired from BT’s research department after a 30 year career that included research management, consultancy, telematics research, mobile systems research at the University of Bath and mobile radio systems work at Philips. Robin's main interests are the future of science and technology and how it will impact on, and interact with the future of business and society.

Simon Perry Simon Perry, analyst
Simon Perry is principal associate analyst at analyst house Quocirca. He specialises in environmental sustainability issues and their implications to business models. Simon has more than 20 years' experience in the IT industry with a career spanning operations, security, and systems architecture. Prior to joining Quocirca, Simon helped build CA's information security business unit.

Puni Rajah Puni Rajah, analyst
Puni Rajah is director at analyst house TechMarketView. Before joining TechMarketView, Puni co-founded The Governance Board, a private community of CFOs. She was also vice president at IDC Asia/Pacific and assisted Canalys with the launch of its Asia/Pacific operations. She has participated in numerous industry bodies and serves on CIO Asia magazine's Asia Pacific CIO Award judging panel.

Richard Sykes Richard Sykes, consultant
Richard Sykes is the chairman of the outsourcing and offshoring group at Intellect, the UK's IT, telecoms and electronics industry trade association. Richard has held senior executive roles at major global multinationals including chemicals giant ICI and Morgan Chambers as well as non-executive chairmanships at smaller organisations. He is currently a board-level adviser on IT strategy and implementation.

Mark Taylor Mark Taylor, open source guru
Mark Taylor is CEO of consultancy Sirius, founder of the Open Source Consortium and a writer and speaker on all aspects of the open source phenomenon. He has been instrumental in some of the largest open source deployments in the UK and has advised both public and private sector organisations.

Charles Ward Charles Ward, industry rep
Charles Ward is chief operating officer of Intellect, the industry body for the IT, telecoms and electronics sectors in the UK. A former marketing director at Computer Services and Software Associations, Charles has held a variety of marketing and sales roles at Compaq, DeLaRue, Johnson & Johnson and 3M UK.

Process
The panel met during August 2009 in central London to debate candidates for inclusion on the Agenda Setters list. In the 24 hours following the debate the panellists each nominated 20 individuals in descending order. That voting process produced the final top 50.
