Sir David Tweedie No. 14 Sir David Tweedie, chairman, International Accounting Standards Board

Last year's position: Not placed

Not your everyday accountant, Sir David Tweedie wields considerable influence over the tech industry as the man in charge of rolling out new international accounting standards.

Though designed to make it easier for investors to examine a company's financials, the move to new standards will create plenty of work for IT departments responsible for linking incompatible financial systems. The decisions Tweedie and his cohorts make will also generate heaps of spending on the part of corporates and loads of income on the part of consultants.

With a background in academia and on Britain's Accounting Standards Board - a job which earned him that title - our panel bets Tweedie possesses the meddle to mediate between the various industry and government players involved in the process and come out with something everyone can live with.
