One of the brains behind the wireless revolution, Joe McGeehan straddles the public and private realms with his work as managing director for a Toshiba Research lab and professor of communications and engineering at the University of Bristol. His most recent honour: a CBE for innovation in wireless communications.
Working five to 10 years ahead of the industry, McGeehan is noted for advancements on mobile radio and speeding up the underlying transport layer for wireless networks to provide high-quality audio, video and data services.
What about influence? "His work is really going to change how people look at mobility... and change how vendors drive home mobility and the solutions they provide," said one panellist.
