No. 21 Jeff Bezos, chairman and CEO, Amazon.com
Last year's position: Not placed
Jeff Bezos claims a spot on the Agenda Setters list for steering the e-tailer through the dot-com bust and moving it onto bigger and better things. The company that defined the category of online booksellers has grown up to become the true superstore of the internet.
The Agenda Setters panel praises Bezos for creating a "lasting" business and building trust with customers. "There's a lot of confidence around his organisation which I don't see elsewhere," says one panellist.
One of the few dot-com founders still at the helm, Bezos still has major plans for Amazon. The last year has seen expansion of its music and digital photo services, investment in blogging company 43 Things, and a move into location-based maps.
Always one to aim high, Bezos has even found time to launch space exploration company Blue Origin. It's onward and upward for this entrepreneur-turned-internet-mogul.
Take a walk down memory lane - and find out who made the Agenda Setters poll over the years:
"China clearly has many dimensions and many are setting an agenda. It's at the political level, it's at the investment level, it's at the contract manufacturing level and it's at the software level - it's all over."
--Peter Rowell, Regent Associates executive chairman and Agenda Setters panellist
