Why? Turning citizens into journalists
Oh Yeon-Ho created a website which allows ordinary people to report on news as it happens - thus popularising so-called 'citizen journalism'. This idea is now forcing all media to reconsider a fundamental question - who are journalists?
By virtue of creating OhMyNews.com, Oh is a powerful engine of change and communication within one of the technology industry's most progressive and most innovative economies.
Though OhMyNews has expanded with a new site in Japan, it remains to be seen how citizen journalism will develop in other parts of the world. But Oh is clearly at the forefront of this new wave of journalism which could reshape the world of media and fully democratise the news industry.
