No. 46 Jonathan Schwartz, CEO, Sun
Last year's position: Not placed
Why? Breathing new life into Silicon Valley stalwart
Though Sun has weathered its share of rough patches, Jonathan Schwartz is the man who could turn it all around.
The Agenda Setters panel has high hopes for the long-time Sun exec and COO, who took over for co-founder and former CEO Scott McNealy earlier this year.
Schwartz is "switched on", one panellist said, and is responsible for the dawning of an age of openness at the Silicon Valley giant.
First and foremost this means taking open source seriously - and considering the development model not just for the Solaris platform but also perhaps for Java. It also means fostering an open attitude within the company, resulting in a plethora of Sun employee blogs - including his own.
Outspoken and principled, Schwartz's influence is felt at Sun and beyond.
Take a walk down memory lane - and find out who made the Agenda Setters poll over the years:
"Ray Ozzie is a radical change force for Microsoft. He is moving them in a very different direction."
--Richard Sykes, Agenda Setters panellist
"My observation is that [kids today] are far more networked and open than any other generation we have ever seen."
--Peter Cochrane, Agenda Setters panellist
