No. 14 Philip Rosedale, founder and CEO, Linden Lab
Last year's position: Not placed
Why? Visualising virtual worlds
Philip Rosedale runs Linden Labs - developers of Second Life, a virtual world which boasts more than 700,000 so-called 'residents'.
More than just games, these worlds blur the lines between real and imagined - residents create lasting relationships and outfits such as the BBC stage virtual versions of real events there.
Virtual worlds are also becoming sites of commerce, where players sell on virtual items to others for real-world cash. The Agenda Setters panel was intrigued by the potential for retail brands to become more deeply involved in virtual worlds and by the worlds' ability to provide an instant-modelling tool for societal behaviour.
Rosedale, former CTO at RealNetworks and an expert in streaming technology, is at the forefront of virtual world development - creating technology that will no doubt influence how we live, work and trade in future.
Take a walk down memory lane - and find out who made the Agenda Setters poll over the years:
"Ray Ozzie is a radical change force for Microsoft. He is moving them in a very different direction."
--Richard Sykes, Agenda Setters panellist
"My observation is that [kids today] are far more networked and open than any other generation we have ever seen."
--Peter Cochrane, Agenda Setters panellist
