No. 8 Ashley Highfield, director of new media and technology, BBC
Last year's position: 3
Why? Keeping the Beeb up-to-date
Ashley Highfield has become something of an Agenda Setters regular in recent years and remains in the top 10 for the third year running.
A seven-year veteran of the BBC, Highfield continues to break new ground with digital content at the Beeb. The emergence of IPTV, a greater move towards on-demand programming and the BBC's adoption of podcasting means there's scope to keep on pushing forward.
After a major reorganisation within the Beeb last summer, his remit expanded atop the newly formed Future Media and Technology department, which is in charge of finding new ways of distributing programmes and improving BBC websites.
The overall impact of Highfield's involvement with the Beeb appears to be a widely acclaimed success story. So as the BBC continues to set the agenda for media worldwide and new media continues to play an increasing role in making the BBC tick, it seems inevitable Highfield will be exerting his influence in the coming year.
