Why? Taking Indian offshoring worldwide

Nandan Nilekani debuts on the Agenda Setters list after Infosys chairman NR Narayana Murthy, number 37 last year, stepped down this summer. Nilekani is now in the spotlight - and widely tipped to succeed Murthy as chairman.

The charismatic CEO was chosen for his work promoting the Indian offshore outsourcing companies as equals to their Western competitors on the world stage. He has pushed a 'global delivery model' to expand Infosys' presence worldwide so it can become a global IT services player and not just an Indian outsourcer.

Nilekani is also building up Infosys' consulting practice in an attempt to grab a lucrative slice of the market for higher value IT services and consultancy.

A co-founder of Indian IT body Nasscom, Nilekani is widely regarded as one of the most influential business people in Asia - the Agenda Setters panel agrees.
