Last year's position: 23

Why? Adding might to Mozilla

Mitch Kapor is a tech industry veteran who continues to set agendas in the open source world and beyond.

The creator of Lotus Notes and co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Kapor makes the list for his leadership role at the Mozilla Foundation.

Mozilla's web browser and email software offer an open source alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Outlook, and have soared in popularity not just at home but also within offices.

The Agenda Setters panel praised Mozilla for its mission of shipping fewer lines of code with each upgrade - unlike the 'bloatware' created by so many software developers.

One panellist said: "It's just what you want on your machine. They're stripping things off rather than putting things on."

Kapor is also something of a trend spotter himself - he's a director at Linden Lab, makers of the popular virtual world Second Life, whose creator rocketed to a number 14 debut on this year's Agenda Setters list.
