No. 41 Mark Linesch, chairman, Open Grid Forum
Last year's position: Not placed
Why? Paving the way for grid computing
The adoption of grid computing is on a sharp incline - no doubt due to the work of Mark Linesch and the Open Grid Forum.
Head of the forum for two years, Linesch is leading the effort to enable real-world uses of grid computing. This includes bringing together users, developers and vendors worldwide, demonstrating best practices and developing standards to make it all work.
The Agenda Setters panel praised Linesch for carrying out these critical and often behind-the-scenes tasks which are necessary to bring a technology into mainstream use.
The Open Grid Forum has already united the two leading grid groups - the Global Grid Forum and Enterprise Grid Alliance - creating an even bigger realm for this former HP exec and even greater expectations for what he can accomplish next.
Take a walk down memory lane - and find out who made the Agenda Setters poll over the years:
"Ray Ozzie is a radical change force for Microsoft. He is moving them in a very different direction."
--Richard Sykes, Agenda Setters panellist
"My observation is that [kids today] are far more networked and open than any other generation we have ever seen."
--Peter Cochrane, Agenda Setters panellist
