Rorie Devine has just left Betfair, where he helped transform the online betting exchange's technology team during his five years there.

Scalability and availability were the two big challenges for Devine and his team and he was responsible for introducing processes and rigour that resulted in Betfair's platform and website becoming more stable and performing better.

Devine also led the tech department through exceptional growth, with headcount tripling and the addition of many new products across Betfair's portfolio.

Devine has a degree in computer systems and electronics from Kings College and started his career with LogicaCMG, working with clients such as the Bank of England. He then moved on to consulting on trading-floor systems in investment banking, working with more than 20 major financial institutions.

He held a variety of leadership roles in internet businesses before landing at Betfair, which he describes as "a fantastic mix of great people, technology, and products".
