NTL bid for Virgin Mobile hits BSkyB

NTL has made a £817m offer for Virgin Mobile in a bid to become a contender in the one-stop TV, net access and telephony services space. But the cable group is already under pressure to up its offer as shares in Sir Richard Branson's business soared on the news. Shares in media rival BSkyB, meanwhile, fell.
