The new contract is expected to save more than £500,000 per year in running costs as well as make a 22 per cent reduction in toner cartridge use. Lexmark will be installing almost 5,000 of its printers to the retail group's store portfolio.

DSGI CIO John Thorp said in a statement: "Our new print strategy is much more cost effective, making day-to-day operations faster and more efficient. Easy access to this technology has improved internal processes, enabling our employees to be more productive and spend more time with customers."

The printing company has installed its own-brand laser printers in DSGI's headquarters, distribution centres and stores. Lexmark has also installed colour laser printers in all PC World stores to create new full-colour point-of-sales merchandising material on-site.

As part of the deal, Lexmark will provide assent management, consumables management and reporting for network management.
