Oxford Hotels is to switch on a revenue management system for online bookings to its 44 properties.

The application, provided by Rate Tiger, manages online bookings made through third-party intermediaries, such as Expedia.com, which charge a commission.

The investment, which is expected to go live at the end of this month, is costing £80,000 in the first year, and is hoped to reduce the time it takes for staff to update booking rates from more than an hour to as little as 10 minutes.

According to Oxford Hotels and Inns head of marketing and ecommerce, Boris Pontarollo, 40 per cent of its revenue comes from internet bookings.

He said: "Some of our hotels have as many as 100 bedrooms and they will have a dedicated booking agent, but others have as few as 16 and staff there will be managing bookings and then going into the kitchen to cook guests' breakfasts."

The application allows the company to update revised allocation and rates, view changes, identify rates by room type, set rate restrictions and provide an activity log through a single interface.
