Amazon has launched a new payments system based around a user's memorable phrase.
The PayPhrase service, launched yesterday in the US, will see Amazon users able to combine a set of payment details - such as their credit card information and shipping details - and then name the data with a memorable phrase.
Once at the checkout, consumers will enter the memorable phrase and a PIN to make their purchase, rather than going through the traditional checkout process.
Each phrase will only be used by a single Amazon user and can either be created by the customer themselves, or picked from a list supplied by the retailer.
The retailer gave the examples of "feisty mango", "elegant dining room" and "Pat's great hounds" as the type of phrases a customer might use.
The PayPhrase scheme is also being taken up by other retailers in the US, including electronics company Buy.com and fashion store DKNY.
