Wine retailer Majestic Wine Warehouse has revealed its online sales volumes jumped during the 26 weeks ended 29 September, despite a tough time on the high street.

The value of orders placed on the wine seller's website increased by 11.5 per cent year-on-year, driven by exclusive offers which have encouraged site traffic, Majestic said.

The retailer added total sales were up in the period 3.4 per cent compared to the same period the year before, reaching £94.1m. However, like-for-like sales, which are calculated using only the same stores operating over the two time periods, declined 2.1 per cent and profit before tax also fell 25.5 per cent.

Majestic Wine chairman Simon Burke said of the results: "The business is very well prepared for the key Christmas trading period, which we expect to be challenging."
