But a report from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) recently warned homeworkers to keep their energy consumption down when working from home (WFH) to make sure this budding eco-friendly method does not become an eco-foe.

Homeworking is extremely popular with tech professionals, judging by a recent silicon.com poll, with nearly a third (29 per cent) of respondents saying they WFH every day.

The silicon.com team of reporters even had a bash at virtual working themselves with our great working from home experiment earlier this year.

But so far working from home does not seem to be the top of most CEOs' agendas, with 47 per cent of business managers saying their company does not allow remote or teleworking and less than two-fifths (38 per cent) allow staff to work remotely or from home under certain circumstances, according to recent research.
