TV via mobile phones has been talked about for many years, but is still a long way from being adopted into mainstream service.
BT's wholesale Movio service is the first provider of mobile TV technology in the UK. Using Movio, Virgin Mobile was the first to launch mobile TV on its network on 1 October this year. Four channels were available at launch: BBC1, Channel 4, E4 and ITV1.

Mobile network 3 also recently signed a deal to bring mobile TV to the UK with Sling Media. Customers on 3 will be able to use the service in December via the Slingbox device.
However the jury is still out on whether mobile TV is a killer wireless app. A recent study showed that many people have little interest in watching television programmes on their mobile phones.
Gartner is more optimistic, saying that by 2009, one in 10 mobile users will adopt mobile services.
Mobile TV may remain a niche product for a while but it's a tech that won't go away without a fight.
