NEWS Around 600 jobs at Apple's manufacturing plant in Ireland could yet be saved according to Irish foreign minister, Mary Harney. Harney held an emergency meeting with Apple executives in an attempt to persuade them to retain their investment in the Cork plant. The meeting was called amid fears that the computer company will be moving its printed circuit board division to the Far East because of lower costs. Over 100 permanent and 500 part-time jobs are at risk. The minister said the negotiations went better than expected, but could not say what the final decision will be. She also asked the company to consider making other products at the plant. Apple declined to comment, saying it is company policy to tell the employees of any developments first.
