NEWS NEC is to invest $225m in Packard Bell NEC, effectively giving it full control of the PC manufacturer. The Japanese giant will also accept an additional $25m investment from French computer maker, Bull, which holds a minority stake in Packard Bell. This will end Packard Bell's 12-year independent existence, with NEC's voting rights rising from 49 per cent to 53 per cent. Bull will hold 12 per cent of the company.
