NEWS Novell will today release the product it hopes will dominate the network operating system, NetWare 5. The IP network platform includes Novell's Network Directory Services (NDS), and marks a key move in the company's strategy to migrate network management towards a pure IP protocol. Hinting at the product's main rival Windows NT, Derek Venter, market development manager for NetWare at Novell, said the directory technology is years ahead of its competitors. NetWare 5 also offers an enhanced version of NDS with LDAP version 3 for interoperability with other directory services and directory enabled security features such as public/private key technology. A five-user Oracle8 license and an integrated FastTrack Server are bundled with the product.
