NEWS Dell is to offer customers the option of having Linux preloaded on PCs and servers. Customers must order at least 50 units per quarter in order to get PCs which include the free software. However, there is no lower limit on the number of servers, although but there is an extra charge of $250 per machine. Linux now claims seven million users worldwide. Dell also announced today that it is opening its third manufacturing plant in Ireland, costing $90m and employing 1,700 new staff. The company expects to be Ireland's largest manufacturer by 2000. In a separate announcement Oracle has signed partnership deals with four Linux resellers and developers. Oracle 8 for Linux is due for release at the end of 1998.
