NEWS Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has unveiled five new S/390-compatible CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) enterprise servers and its fastest ever mainframe. The mainframe giant claims the new 11-way model within its HDS Pilot Series is the most powerful CMOS system ever announced. HDS also said that by the third quarter of 1999 it will make Skyline II mainframes available with 12 processor designs up to three times as fast as current Skyline systems. The company also announced a PC File Server supported under OS/390, Open Network Connectivity, to accommodate customers demanding the simple connection of Internet, intranet and extranet applications, especially as the number of remote and mobile users increases.
