NEWS Apple has launched version 8.5 of its Macintosh operating system (OS). According to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the OS is a "must have" upgrade with a 15 minute installation and enhanced features. Mac OS 8.5 includes an improved search system, dubbed Sherlock, which searches the Net on multiple engines and can find information on a computer by a document's content as well as its title. It also offers faster file saving over a network, multilingual Internet access and support for the Euro currency symbol. The OS will be shipped to Apple resellers in Europe on 17 October - the same date as the US - for $99. All iMac owners will be offered an upgrade price of $19.95. The OS can be purchased direct from www.apple.com
