Nationwide sweeps away old PCs for the millennium

NEWS Nationwide is set to replace all its desktop devices as part of its Year 2000 compliancy project. The UK building society said the fast approaching deadline led to the decision for a "technology refresh program" throughout the company. A spokesman added: "We needed to replace the PCs anyway. We are very Year 2000-aware, so we saw it as a launch pad for replacing them." Unisys fought off competition from ICL, Computacenter and SNI to win the £1.2m contract. The systems integrator will install 8,000 SNI PCs and 2,000 printers as well as flat screen monitors and Cherry keyboards. The initial pilot took place during August and the roll out is expected to continue until March next year.
