NEWS Bill Gates has been accused by one of his own senior executives of bullying Intuit into promoting Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) browser. Speaking under cross-examination during the ongoing anti-trust case, William Poole, senior director of business development for Windows, said Gates told Intuit it could only get a prime position on the Windows channel bar if the accounting software company promoted the IE browser. Poole admitted that Gates dictated the broad terms of the deal but left the details to him. He also confessed that Gates had initially thought Microsoft could make up to $100m by charging for a presence on the toolbar which appears on the Windows desktop interface. The idea of charging was later dropped.
