NEWS A US court has found CD Media guilty of dealing in pirate Microsoft software. The judge ordered the software distributor to stop advertising unlicensed products originally destined for academics in the US and Canada. David Gregory, UK anti-piracy manager at Microsoft, said the ruling sent a clear message to anyone thinking of distributing illegal software. He claimed there was "no excuse for ignorance now" and that Microsoft was now going to "redouble" its efforts to "hunt down all illegal resellers of our products". The news of the legal success comes immediately after Microsoft issued a high court writ to Netcom Distribution and Netcom Distributors as well as two past company directors, Aftab Bhatti and Jasbir Singh Uppal. The software giant claims the two companies sold counterfeit Microsoft products on five separate occasions between August 1997 and July 1998. In recent months, Microsoft has continued its crack-down on illegal software dealings. Last month the company carried out a raid on MorexPlus, a large PC and component dealer, with trading standards officers. Products seized included copies of Windows NT Server and Office 97 Professional Edition.
