NEWS Hewlett-Packard has been through a variety of changes over the last 18 months. It has rejigged its channel strategy - most recently risking reseller anger by offering direct sales to small firms from its Web site. It is also following IBM by making the Web central to its marketing message. HP has also reworked its top management. The company has been split into four divisions - computing, inkjet, laser printing, and enterprise computing. The man in charge of the Computing Division is Duane Zitzner. In an interview with Silicon.com, Zitzner explained how the Net revolution has touched not just HP's customers but the company itself. Zitzner said one of the reasons behind the four-way spilt was to allow HP to act more like a smaller company - to be more nimble and quick on its feet. He also claimed the new structure gives the four divisional presidents more autonomy and control over their departments. The whole interview will be published later this month on Silicon.com's Desktop Strategies Channel.
