NEWS Bridgestone Corporation has chosen Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) to provide it with the hardware to underpin an SAP R/3 roll-out. The world's largest manufacturer of tyres and rubber products will deploy two Hitachi eight-way servers, six four-way servers and a Freedom Storage 5800 subsystem. The SAP R/3 implementation, supporting up to 1,000 concurrent users, includes financial accounting, managerial accounting and fixed assets management systems. HDS has also released its latest eight-way Windows NT-based server. The next generation server is a follow-on from its VisionBase 8890R, with memory access speeds of 1.6Gbits per second.
