NEWS Hackers have successfully defeated security features protecting Microsoft's latest Windows 2000 server software after the company issued a challenge to crack it. Microsoft posted a Web-based beta testing site showcasing the software which the company said was a direct challenge to those who thought they could beat its security. Almost immediately the site was bombarded with 'poison packets' - large, disabling amounts of data disguised as small packets - which promptly disabled part of the test server. In spite of the security breach, Microsoft claimed the exercise had been a success since it helped to prove it could keep the server running despite the attack.
