G4 chip shortage hurts Apple stock

NEWS Shares in Apple Computer dropped sharply in yesterday's after-hours trading, following the announcement that Apple's shipments, revenues and earnings will be considerably below that of the previous quarter. The fourth quarter shortfall has been linked to the shortage of high-speed microprocessor chips used in the Power Mac G4. Since its launch three weeks ago, orders for Power Mac G4 have risen to 150,000, but Apple has already admitted it will not be able to ship that amount this quarter. Interim chief executive Steve Jobs, insists this is a "temporary issue".
