NEWS NEC Packard Bell is pulling out of the retail PC market in the US, and is to lay off 80 per cent of its staff. The redundancies are in response to a predicted $150 million loss for the year. Just four months ago, Silicon.com interviewed Graham Hopper, UK MD of Packard Bell. At the time, he insisted Packard-Bell in Europe is primarily a retail brand. "Packard Bell means sales through retail& the defining thing for Packard Bell is that we sell through retail," he said.
