British Gas rolls out data store

NEWS British Gas Services (BGS), part of the Centrica Group, has installed an Ixos Software archive product to help manage its customer and finance information. BGS currently operates three separate databases for critical information on its 3.5m customers. Every week, each one archives thousands of records. The workflow management information system stores and monitors field reports from engineers. Meanwhile, the company uses its 'Banner' database to manage customer service contracts and payments, and SAP R/3 software handles its core financial, supplies and logistics business processes. Ixos archive was chosen for its ability to manage data from a variety of databases, according to Robert Kemp, IS systems manager at BGS.
