Report predicts Novell decline as NT matures

NEWS Novell stands to lose more of its share of the network operating systems (NOS) market as Windows NT matures, according to a report released today. The report by market intelligence company, Rhetorik, claims Unix has overtaken Novell Netware in market share for the first time, with over a third of people using a Unix system. The report also states that 45 per cent of users running both Microsoft and Novell software intend to consolidate on NT in the near future. Accordingly, Novell's market share has fallen from 36 to 30 per cent in the last year. The report claims the move away from Novell reflects the improving perception of NT as robust enough for mission critical applications.
