NEWS The European Commission has given Microsoft four weeks to respond to the demands for information on specific Windows 2000 features. It was revealed yesterday that it has launched an investigation into the new operating system. Mario Monti, European Commissioner for competition, said the company must respond by March. But Monti predicted it would take the Commission longer to examine Microsoft's response in detail and decide whether to start injunction procedures. If Microsoft is found in contempt of competition law, it could be forced to make heavy amendments to its latest operating system. Microsoft confirmed it would comply with the demands.
