IDC research claims home PCs out-selling business models

NEWS Computers sales in the consumer sector are currently growing faster than those for PCs in the business sector, according to the latest forecast update from IDC. The research house said that with compound growth at over 15 per cent between 1998 and 2003, this sector of the market will drive PC sales in Western Europe. Ruth Constable, senior industry analyst at IDC, said: "Despite some softness in the business marketplace, Western Europe was fuelled by consumer purchases, driven by Internet demand and pricing actions as the millennium bug effect was offset by strong small and medium business demand in the commercial sector." She added that manufacturers are focusing their energies more on the home due to the interest in the Internet and Web-enabled machines.
