NEWS Storage specialist, Quantum, has set aside $100m to establish a venture capital spin-off aimed at unearthing new technologies, business models and applications in its industry. Jim Schraith, the former executive vice president of worldwide sales and corporate marketing at the company, will head the firm, to be called Quantum Technology Ventures (QTV). QTV said it will look to develop storage products beyond its traditional desktop hard-disk drive, tape drive, consumer storage, network attached storage, and DLT lines of business. It has already announced investment in StoragePoint.com, an online storage provider.
