Ballmer reassures the Microsoft faithful

NEWS Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, has reassured employees that the company will not be split up despite threats from the US Department of Justice. In an internal memo acquired by the New York Times, Ballmer said he was "bullish" about Microsoft's future and announced a decision to issue all employees with new stock options in an effort to reassure those who may be reconsidering their career options. The reassurances follow reports that the US government will advise the judge presiding over the long-running Microsoft case to break the company into two to prevent future abuses of the company's market position. In the memo, Ballmer said: "No matter what the newspaper headlines say, absolutely nothing in the current case justifies breaking us up."
