NEWS Microsoft is to ask the US Government for more time to prepare its defence against the remedy proposed last week in its long-running anti-trust case. Last week, the Justice Department proposed to break the company into two separate firms - one for the operating systems business and one for applications and Internet activities - and gave the software giant just 12 days to respond. But according to the latest reports, Microsoft is to ask for an extension to prepare a detailed defence against the radical break-up proposals. The government has until 17 May to answer Microsoft's pleas, with a hearing scheduled for the 24 May.
