NEWS The Internet revolution will eventually lead to companies spending more on enterprise storage than servers, according to Mike Ruettgers, CEO of storage giant EMC. Speaking to Silicon.com in this week's Agenda Setters interview, Ruettgers claimed the future growth of EMC is assured as companies realise the importance of investing in storage systems.
Ruettgers said: "The Internet is about accessing information. There are lots of people playing on the access side, but there are only a few of us playing on the information side. In the future companies will spend more money on storage than on servers. It's obviously playing into what we do and we just see market leadership growing." Over the past 10 years EMC's revenue has increased more than 50 fold. Its aim for next year is to reap revenues of $12bn. Ruettgers ultimately wants to see EMC ranked as one of the top three technology companies. EMC posted a 49 per cent revenue rise in its first quarter results this year. Thirty-eight per cent of total revenue came from hardware sales, the highest growth it has seen in this sector since 1995. According to Ruettgers, future growth will be bolstered by ventures in the software sector. EMC acquired two software groups earlier this year and there are plans to further expand in this field.
