NEWS IBM is to provide the US government with a second supercomputer in a $17m deal due to be announced today. According to a CNN report, IBM is providing the Department of Defence with an RS/6000 SP computer to code data on oceanic conditions. It will also be used in a range of other research projects including designing aircraft and military exercises. The computer - nicknamed "Blue Wave" - will be capable of processing two trillion calculations per second, making it the fourth largest in the world. IBM could not confirm the current deal, however, in a $110m deal last month they provided the US Department of Energy with a similar but considerably more powerful supercomputer.
