NEWS The Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) has axed almost 20 per cent of its workforce following the acquisition of its Unix software division by Linux supplier Caldera Systems. Once the deal is completed, approximately 190 jobs will be lost from the Unix business. The move will also see SCO incur a one-time charge of up to $6m in the quarter ending 30 September 2000. Caldera, who paid $145m for SCO's server software division and professional services division, also has rights to SCO's work on the 'Monterey' high-end joint venture with IBM. When the deal is completed SCO will rename itself Tarantella.
