Europe safe from US downturn says Dell chief

The European PC market should grow five per cent this year, with little sign of any adverse effects from the US economic slowdown, according to the European chief of Dell.

NEWS Paul Bell, president of Dell's European division, said that while US multinationals may be cost cutting, some European companies are increasing their IT expenditure in a post Y2K blitz. However, in today's interview with Reuters Television, Bell abstained from making any economic predictions for the year. And he added that while there will be no further European redundancies at Dell, to supplement February's four per cent cut in global workforce, many posts will remain unfilled as they became vacant.
