NEWS EMC today triumphantly bugled a report from Gartner which says the storage company is the clear leader in the market and has grown its market share to 34.6 per cent in external RAID storage, wiping the floor and exceeding the combined total of Compaq, IBM, HP and Sun. At the same time, Hitachi Data Systems, which calls itself 'the world's fastest growing supplier of enterprise data storage systems' started pushing a report saying that its customers are more satisfied. The Find/SVP survey of US customers found that 89 per cent of Hitachi customers were either 'extremely satisfied' or 'very satisfied'. The survey gave ratings of 59 per cent to EMC and 58 per cent to IBM for the equivalent satisfaction rating. Hitachi said the survey showed its lead in services was particularly notable over the other eight storage companies and that its overall lead in customer satisfaction was substantial.
