NEWS German Linux specialist SuSE has laid off 10 per cent of its staff, blaming a downturn in the market. The announcement came as the company ratified its new CEO Johannes Nussbickel. Approximately 50 non-technical workers will go from the company's German offices. The layoffs follow over 60 per cent reductions in SuSE's US offices in February. However, SuSE is not the only one in the Linux market to suffer from a downturn. VA Linux announced in June that it will exit the Linux hardware business and also plans to lay-off staff. Red Hat had gone into profit, but one-time charges of $26m brought the company back into the red.
