NEWS IBM has quietly decided to ditch AMD's Athlon and Duron chips from its desktop machines. The move will only affect PCs sold in the US and Canada and the company will continue using AMD chips in PCs manufactured in Asia, according to a report on US newswires. IBM has traditionally relied on Intel's processors and the decision to support AMD announced last year was seen as a small victory for AMD. The news comes at the time of intensified price-cutting in the chip market. Intel has been forced to cut prices drastically, reducing the price of its 1.8GHz Pentium 4 chip by 50 per cent.
