NEWS Storage giant EMC has developed technology which triples the distance of data transfer over a fibre channel between devices, such as servers and data storage systems. EMC claims it can extend the distance of storage networks up to 200 kilometres, which according to the company has previously been impossible. The technology is based on EMC's Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) remote mirroring and disaster recovery software and it works over Fibre Channel-based storage networks. EMC claims its technology allows data recovery across greater geographic distances and increased data protection in the event of a disaster, such as a blackout or earthquake.
