Apple segues into MP3 market

iPod device stores up to 1,000 songs...

NEWS Apple has released an MP3 player called the iPod that it claims can store up to 1,000 songs. The iPod has a 5GB hard drive and connects to a Mac using Firewire. The unit is the size of a pack of cards, has a 10-hour lithium polymer battery and offers 20 minutes of anti-skip protection The iPod is compatible with Firewire enabled Macs running Mac OS 9.2 or later or Mac OS X 10.1. The unit will be available in the US from 10 November and priced at $399. UK details have not been released yet.
