NEWS Dell has bought a 10,000-seat software licence from the peer-to-peer specialist Groove Networks for internal use. The deal involves a total of 10,000 licences of Groove version 1.3 software, which will be used for remote real-time meetings, project collaboration and sharing of business processes across the whole of Dell's organisation. The upgraded 1.3 version features a number of enhancements, such as integration with MS Messenger, Word and XP. These improvements allow, for instance, two or more people to simultaneously edit Word files or share a space in the Messenger software with other users. The Dell contract is the one of the largest contracts for the former Lotus Notes' guru Ray Ozzie's start-up. Pharmaceutical group, GlaxoSmithKline bought a 10,000-seat licence in April this year.
